About CCEE San Diego
CCEE San Diego is the San Diego Center for Economic Education at Cuyamaca College. This center was developed by the EconEd Foundation of San Diego and the California Council on Economic Education, after it was decided it would be best if there was a college campus as a base camp from which economic education information could be disseminated. The EconEd Foundation of San Diego continues to exist as the fundraising arm of the CCEE San Diego. This web site still includes all of the great information, resources, and links found on the older site.

The California Association of School Economics Teachers (CASET) will present the 13th Annual CASET Economics in Education Conference at Cuyamaca College in El Cajon, California on October 24, 2008 from 8:30AM to 3:00PM.
The California Association of School Economics Teachers is an organization of educators promoting the effective teaching of economic principles in the K-12 grades. A highlight each year is CASET’s one-day, state-wide conference for economics teachers. The conference features sessions tailored to different grade levels with emphasis on activity-based economic curriculum, teaching strategies, cooperative learning tips, and demonstrations of new materials. In partnership with Cuyamaca College, CCEE San Diego, and the California Council on Economic Education (CCEE), this year’s conference will be held in San Diego.
CASET was founded by two economics teachers, Donna McCreadie and Sue Weaver as an organization to help California teachers improve and expand their students’ economic literacy. The goals of the organization are to provide a network for teachers, to provide workshops and conferences, and to give teachers a voice in improving economics education.
The first CASET conference, “A Celebration in Honor of School Economics Teachers” was held in May 1995. Generous donations from Wally Fassler, Chairman of Chevron, and Mr. Robert Hahn, a retired business person, helped start the tradition of an annual CASET conference.
With the help and support of Cuyamaca College and Anthony Zambelli (Professor of Business and Professional Studies, and Director of the San Diego Center for Economic Education), this year’s conference will offer sessions covering: 1) cross-border economics; 2) innovative ways to teach economics in the classroom; 3) the Econogame – creating a market economy in your classroom; 4) the current financial crisis; and 5) economics and literature. The featured speaker for this year’s conference is Yoram Bauman, also known as “The Stand-Up Economist.”
Details for the conference can be viewed at: www.ccee.org, under the CASET tab. |

Lesson plans are demonstrated and discussed in order to build confidence in their effectiveness. Outstanding instructors lead intellectually stimulating sessions, and each program includes a field trip to an environmentally challenging site.
- Only thirty teachers accepted per program

The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco Announces
An International Economic Summit Teacher Professional Development Training
At the California Council on Economic Education Center
California State University San Bernardino, June 19-20, 2008
The International Economic Summit (IES) is a world trade simulation that teaches fundamental economic concepts within the context of international trade. The program challenges high school students to think critically about the costs and benefits of trade while exploring the concept of globalization. IES is a standards-based instructional unit that includes 13 individual lesson plans, providing flexible classroom implementation by easily flowing into an existing course of study or as a stand-alone unit. By utilizing an experience-based learning model, it provides students with a solid foundation in economic fundamentals and incorporates a method for active-learning that is fun as well as challenging. Over the course of the curriculum, students form teams, adopt a country, and take on the role of Economic Advisors. Each team conducts extensive research on their country in order to generate a strategic plan to improve living standards. The culminating activity is a six-hour, real time global trade simulation where student teams competitively implement their strategic plans in the simulated global marketplace.
